So many things I can't work out about Leap Motion!

OK, so I bought a Leap Motion controller to use in DCS VR and I'm having a stack of issues.
1) whenever I try to run any apps in the Leap Gallery, I just get a 'controller not connected' type error message.
2) in Visualizer (and in DCS) I can see the hands OK, but fingers don't work properly in certain parts of the screen. If I move an outstretched fingers hand around, in certain locations, some fingers move to a closed position when they shouldn't do. This makes using the device useless in DCS as certain cockpit functions are activated by mistake!
3) Also, in DCS, I'm confused by blue lines and green lines emitting from the hands when fist clenched. What is the difference between the colours?
4) I can't see what the 'action' gesture is. When there is a button to press, then that works OK by just touching it with a 'finger', but when there is a 2 or 3 way switch, or a menu option, I can't tell how to action those.
I have various other questions, but if anyone can help so far, that would be great!

Hi,

1) If you are using the wrong version of our hand tracking software then you will see this Leap Motion Controller Disconnected error. Our desktop apps were built for our older V2 SDK (please remember to apply this manual hotfix) and our newer VR apps were built for V4 Orion. Please check the software version that you need and this should get you up and running with these! Please note that apps now need to be accessed via the Gallery, App Home was retired in 2017 and apps accessed here will not work.
2) If you are able to I recommend having the diagnostic visualiser open at the same time as DCS to try and identify why the hand is closing and if this is due to occlusion or something similar where the camera is not able to see the position of the hand and fingers. Which version of our SDK are you currently using?
3) The Blue and Green lines correspond to a left (green) or right (blue) click interaction
4) I recommend having a look at this guide which has details on setup and use. There is also information on how the controls are mapped listed on the LeapDriver GitHub Page here.

This is also something that our tracking team is working to improve all the time. In many cases, this comes down to testing your actions with the diagnostic.

Thanks guys. However, I returned the controller as it just doesn’t work well in DCS.
There is great potential, but it is not there yet.
The issues didn’t relate to the camera not seeing, as I had the visualiser on at all times. Even with my head moved looking directly at the hand, there were certain positions that the fingers were showing closed when in reality they were not.
The biggest issue was that when the left hand is holding the HOTAS throttle, the Leap Motion sensor recognised this as a clenched fist, sending out the blue and green lines which activated switches, including the nearby Emergency Jettison in the Hornet!

That must have been a shock the first time that you triggered the Emergency Jettison by accident!

Thank you for the feedback, there is a video posted on Reddit here that looks at how hand tracking is used within DCS World that you might find useful and mirrors some of the things that you have said above.

Thanks Dan, yes, you’ve pointed me to that before.
It shows a lot of the problems, i.e. with rotaries, dials and switches, as well as the major issue with what happens when hand is gripped around the physical HOTAS. now, the guy there is suggesting a switch for hands on and off to resolve that last point, but really, doing that all the time is just not a proper solution.
I’m afraid, as I said before, there is potential here, but there is no way that it is usable in DCS in its current state of development.
