When installing the Leap Motion software and Airspace now, I get the following warning:

"It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Please download and install the appropriate driver for your graphics hardware, then click Retry to continue installation. If you skip this step, the Leap Motion Orientation and Airspace applications may default to the built-in Windows driver and not run properly."

I have actually installed the NVIDIA driver for GeForce 8600M GT, version is currently 327.02, so there must be something that Leap Motion has missed.

The only thing I can do is to skip the step, and then some things run dramatically slow, such as the visualizer.

Suggestions for way forward here?

That's odd that the installer isn't detecting your driver. It doesn't do anything too smart, just checks the timestamp of nvd3dumx.dll. Do you have that file present under C:\Windows\System32? If not, what nv*.dll files are there and what do their timestamps say?

From what I can tell the latest driver for GeForce 8600M GT is WHQL version 331.65: http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/68803/en-us264
Where are you getting 327.02?

I'm not sure if the graphics driver is the reason the Visualizer is running slowly. Sounds like you have a decent graphics card. What kind of CPU do you have and which distribution of Windows?

There is no nvd3dumx.dll. The closest match is nvd3dum.dll with timestamp 23-10-2013. I have just upgrade the driver to the WHQL version you indicated.

Actually it is the Orientation app that runs extremely slow. All other apps work fine, the Visualizer included.

Good to hear that the latest NVIDIA driver installed properly.

That helps to know that Orientation is the only program having a performance problem. I looked up the specs for GeForce 8600M GT and realized this may be due to a limitation of video RAM. The 8600M GT can come with 512, 256, or as low as 128 MB. Do you happen to know how much yours has?

Orientation has some logic to guess the select the right experience level for given hardware. Unfortunately it doesn't yet optimally cover all of the hundreds of graphics cards out there. I believe it's seeing a GeForce 8 series GPU then selecting a medium-to-high experience level even though that may be the wrong choice due to limited VRAM.

The GPU has 256MB DDR2 dedicated video memory. It has 0MB system video memory. It sits in a Dell Inspiron 1720.

The warning I mention originally, where I just press "skip", does this have any consequences in LeapMotion app functionality or performance?

Any idea why I do not have the nvd3dumx.dll file in my driver installation, and can I do anything about it? Should LeapMotion check for other dll files?

Hello,

I have a Nvidia GeForce 9300M GS on a lenovo notebook, runing Windows 7 Professional 32 bits (Service Pack 1). The cpu is an Intel(R) Pentium(R) Dual CPU T3200 @ 2.00GHz (2001 MHz).

DirectX version: 11.0
GPU processor: GeForce 9300M GS
Driver version: 195.62
CUDA Cores: 8

I'm using the nvidia drivers (version 195.62, control panel 2.8.254.08, Cuda 3.0.1). I also got several nvd3dum.dll but now the nvd3dumx.dll

I got the same problem: When installing the Leap Motion software and Airspace lastes versions, I get the following warning:

"It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Please download and install the appropriate driver for your graphics hardware, then click Retry to continue installation. If you skip this step, the Leap Motion Orientation and Airspace applications may default to the built-in Windows driver and not run properly."

I choose the "Ignore" and the instalation went fine, but the Visualizer and the airspace aplications crash. Visualizer error is "Orientation has crashed. Please make sure you have the latest graphics drivers installed."

The Corel Painter Freestyle dependencies also don't install. Got the mesg:

Installation Wizard Complete
Your computer has not been modified. Click Finish to quit the setup for now, and re-run the setup when you are ready to try again.

This installation package is not supported by this processor type. Conctact your product vendor.

I'll install now the lastest drivers from:

I was told to uninstall and install again the leap motion controller setup because of the "It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Please download and install the appropriate driver for your graphics hardware, then click Retry to continue installation. If you skip this step, the Leap Motion Orientation and Airspace applications may default to the built-in Windows driver and not run properly" message but each time I re-install the error comes up again at the 20% of the installation.
My GPU is GeForce GTS 450 and is up to date with the driver version 327.23.
What can I do?

2 months later

@Polonia it turns out we have a bug in the GPU check that hits systems like yours that say

Windows 7 Professional, 32-bit (Service Pack 1)

That is, our GPU check works okay on Windows 7 or 8 64-bit as it looks for nvd3dumx.dll, but not 32-bit (nvd3dum.dll). We'll have this check fixed in a future release.

However, there is a problem with your setup. The Pentium Dual T3200 is a Merom-based CPU, and does not meet our minimum requirement of a Core i3 or better. You can continue running this, but don't expect the greatest performance or reliability with the service or apps on Airspace Home.

@turmewrā€‹3ck and @xAmirKatzx : By any chance are you also running a 32-bit version of Windows? If so, it's fine to click "Ignore" for the GPU check until we fix this.

Regarding whether your graphics cards and graphics drivers are up to par: @xAmirKatzx, the GeForce GTS 450 is good enough to run most Airspace applications well. @turmewrā€‹3ck and @Polonia you may be somewhat limited with 256 MB of VRAM and GPUs based on the G92 architecture. Orientation tends to be more draining on those cards, but many of the apps in Airspace that run on the Unity engine should be fine.

I'm using Win 8.1 32-bit. In my case most things work fine.

I appreciate that you take time to fix the annoying message, and look forward to test it.

Sorry to revive this topic, but I just acquire a Leap Motion and I'm having this "Proprietary Graphics Driver" thing.
I have Windows 10 64 Bits and a MSI Nvidia GTX 970 as a Graphic Card with the latest driver available.

How could I have this error?

1 year later

I am using NVIDIA gforce 940mx and intel core i7 processor with intel HD graphics 620. When I try to run the setup I get error "It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Please download and install the appropriate driver for your graphics hardware, then click Retry to continue installation. If you skip this step, the Playground and Appstore applications may default to the built-in Windows driver and not run properly." I have all the latest version of graphics drivers installed.

I just installed the Leap Motion software on a new computer, with i7-700'HQ CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GTX1070 and Windows 10 Pro operating system.
When trying to install the V2 software version Leap_Motion_SDK_Windows_2.3.1 (it is the one that owrks fine in my other computer), I get the message indicated in the posts above "It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel...". If I omit this step, installation completes but the LeapMotion controller does not work at all. I made a successfull installation with Leap_Motion_Setup_4.0.0, but performance in "desktop mode" (that is the only mode I use Leap Motion) is poor, as adviced in the visualiser ("Orion performrs best in head-mounted devices). Any suggestion to make the 2.3.1 version working?

3 months later

I have the same problem. Although 2 weeks ago everything worked, but now only Orion works.

Hello...

When I install leap motion SDK 2.3.1, I get the following warning:
"It appears you have not installed any proprietary graphics driver from NVIDIA, AMD, or Intel. Please download and install the appropriate driver for your graphics hardware, then click Retry to continue installation. If you skip this step, the Leap Motion Orientation and Airspace applications may default to the built-in Windows driver and not run properly."

I ignore the message, but the driver don't recognize the leap motion.
My laptop have a NIVIDIA GTX 1060, version 417.01

Do you have a solution for this problem?

1 month later

Hi, i have the same problem installing the SDK 2.3.1.
My laptop is Lenovo with NVIDIA GTX 1050

1 year later

same problem here in 2020, why has noone answered in years? Do we all just have fancy useless silver bricks now?

Ignore this message.

Just in case the device is not recognized afterwards, go to the Leap Motion program files folder (something like C:\Program Files\Leap Motion\Core Services\Drivers), and execute the dpinst*.exe (depending on your system, x32 or x64), to install the remaining drivers and should work inmediatelly.
