Pulling my hair out trying to connect Leap to HTC Vive. HELP!

I can say that I've followed Leap Motions instructions and have downloaded Orion and unpacked all that needed unpacking. On its own, the Leap works just fine. I connected the Leap to the aux USB 3 port on the Vive which isn't ideal but it should give me something. Nada. The tutorial landscape for this is pretty confusing but I've tried a lot of that too (various git hub driver files, etc.) to no avail. The Leap is recognized by my PC just fine (even when attached through the Vive), but I see nothing in Steam VR. I got it to work once early on, but had to uninstall/reinstall the Leap and for the life of me I can't remember what I did and have never gotten it back. Is there some step by step tut out there I can use to walk me through this? What am I missing? Thanks.

I tried it in the past - differently from your successful experience (at least once, you said), mine was never successful maybe for the too long (4m) cable of the Vive. I also had problem in extending the LM cable so that it can't actually be no more than ~3m.

Yet, since one year I'm very happy with my wireless setup done by a Vive, a TPCast modified w/ the OpenTPCast software, and a Leap Motion of course. (Wireless Vive w/ Leap Motion)
Performances in wireless are 33fps wrt. 43fps of the wired version.

You're getting 43 fps on the wired version? That's some serious framerate loss. Have you tried shuffling between different USB ports? How many USB 2 and 3 ports do you have?

We generally don't recommend plugging the controller into the Vive directly, but it can work if you disable the Vive camera.

Alex, performances dropped w/ the latest Orion release (which I downloaded ~1 year ago) from 100+ to ~43fps - no matter what USB port used and what computer (same perfs from Intel i5-based computing dongle to Alienware ws passing through a gaming laptop that I use for the wireless setup, I ascribed it to a better tracking accuracy. Don't know if there's a new release w/ better performances.

Update: I purchased the leap motion VR mount that comes with a 5m cable and plugged that into USB 3 on my PC. I have been able to get Leap working with the Vive Headset on games taken from the gallery so I know it works. I have not gotten the Leap to work in the steam VR environment and cant figure out how to integrate the different hands options. Is that built into the simulation itself via something like a Unity plugin? Again, are there more comprehensive tutorials out there in the community somewhere? Thanks.

Edit: I'm also not able to calibrate the leap beyond 80. I hoped the USB 3 cable would fix this but no.

@PLeoncini To be honest that kind of framerate should never occur, regardless of software version. I'm at a loss to explain why that would be the case, unless you're using a very old developer release of the controller from before July 2013, or there's something wrong with the device.

@virtuallabuiowa Our Unity plugin supports SteamVR through the native engine integration?

(Calibration with version 4 matters considerably less than it did in the past, so I wouldn't worry too much about it.)

I got my first unit in Sept 2013 - maybe the one I told about - and a second unit in Sept 2015 - so as to your suspect I should try with the newer one and will let you know - thanks for the hint.

Same perfs also with the second unit (Data framerate max 43.9) - sorry.
