Please help getting back on track (user not developer)

Hi Guys

I'm one of the earliest buyers of Leap Motion and unfortunately I've not used it in years (found my LM device just recently)

Anywho, I'd like to put it to good use this time but i am honestly so so confused with where you guys are at now with all the different Software like orion, v2, unity etc which I am not familiar with. I am just a user but seems to me that this device has become for developers only.

Anyway I went ahead and downloaded the first windows desktop software offered to me at

That installed fine and i was able to track my hand in the diagnostics -> proving my device is still fine.... but other than that, i can't find a decent and useful app that works. Even the demo apps like Handwave and particles are not working right giving errors. The Cat app seems to work fine but my hand is not oriented right in the software, it's upside down or something (i have my LM on the table facing up) .

Anyway what I would like really is just to get pointed in the right direction.

For a simple user like me who just want to put this to good use, even just for gesture control and virtual touch screen purposes, WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?? WHAT software do i really need to install? v2? orion?

I mean, i really went thru the site and the more I read about the options the more i get confused. it's quite frustrating.

It's been a whirlwind few years Most of our development since 2014 has been focused on Leap Motion as VR/AR input rather than desktop accessory. Cat Explorer is a VR app so the controller thinks that it's on your head instead of on a desk.

Here's a breakdown:

• The V2 software may be used to build with our standard tracking on OSX or Linux, or with tool tracking or touchscreen-style gestures. However, the software is no longer supported. We strongly recommend using the more recent software versions.

• The V3 software, aka the first major Orion tracking release, is optimized for VR. However, it also preserved many of the legacy APIs out of the box, i.e. C++, C#, Objective-C, Java, Python, and JavaScript. Applications that rely on these APIs require the V3 software. For your purposes, I recommend this version.

• The V4 software, or the second generation of Orion, is further optimized for performance on VR platforms. With V4 we deprecated the older APIs. The newest VR demos such as Cat Explorer require V4.

alright, installed V3, and TouchlessFor Windows

everything seem to work fine through the test/training screens
then i set the Touchless settings to INTERACTION > BASIC

Tried it.. nothing happens. tried it on desktop, browsers, pdf docs, word docs.. seems to have ZERO interaction with anything beyond the training screens.. what gives?

I did try The Harp app, it seems to work fine.. Touchless not compatible with Orion?

Background app support doesn't work in Orion, so if you're keen on Touchless you will need to revert to V2.

crap.. so what utility app is there that works with orion then that is similar to touchless? i really just wanna use touchscreen style and air gestures with my leap, or else this is nothing but paperweight to me
