Hey folks, first time poster drivel ahead. Got an idea. I was thinking I could increase the tracking accuracy by including NFC dots (like those you can put on your fingernails for example).

However, I'm not sure if the sensor has the capability to notice those signals. Can anyone shed some light on the function of the sensor and it's detection capabilities to inform me if this is even possible (1a and 1b)?

1a. If no, can the data of adding an NFC detector be written into a translatable format such that the software can integrate the data for the above stated purpose (2a and 2b)?

1b. If yes, can anyone point me to additional information that I can read up on to learn the steps required to perform this function?

2a. If no, why not?

2b. If yes, what are the primary components of the code I would need to know to ensure I learn the key knowledge points of the code architecture? I only ask to target my next learning steps more efficiently.

Hi!

NFC is for Near Field Communication, if you've already use it on a phone or credit card, you know that the distance between reader and sender needs to be really short. Moreover, the Leap Motion is a camera, and not an NFC reader, so it's impossible to read the signal with it even if you're really close. The only thing that can be interesting with NFC dots like those on fingernails is the LED which can be tracked by some simples vision algorithms with the Leap. But in reality you don't need a LED, just something that reflect IR light (in good lighting condition) like reflective tape. The real problem to increase the accuracy is that you need a lot of little reflective tape all around your hand (like gloves used in research, ex:https://www.facebook.com/HCI.Research/videos/1705415359496341/), if you only use tape on fingernails, when you turn your hand palm facing the leap, you can't see the tapes and that's the same as leap only.

Why did you need a better tracking accuracy? What's your use case?
