I just finished a head-to-head comparison of LeapMotion and the old Intel Realsense F200. Basic results are that the Leapmotion tracking is far more accurate once the hands have initially been detected. Where the Realsense wins out is that it can reliably detect hands (but not fingers) when arms are stretched out at say 25" from the sensor.
With Orion the hands have to enter the field of view within about 12" of the sensor or they are never found by the software. The following scenario breaks tracking for me:
- hold hand 10" from sensor
- move hand so it's 25" from sensor (everything fine so far)
- look / rotate sensor so it faces away from the hand, then rotate it back to its original position.
- Result: no more hand
Any suggestions on how to improve this behavior? Is there some hidden setting to tell Orion to do a more comprehensive search at distance?
