Locking movement along z-axis

Hello, I recently picked up Leap Motion. I was interested in using the hand control in a 2d environment and wondering if there's an easy way to lock movement along the z-axis, so it's only updating x and y translation. This is for a desktop application. Any tips are greatly appreciated!

Our APIs provide X, Y, and Z movement for all parts of the hand; your application could simply not call z-axis values.
