Any chance there is a way to build the source, or get an arm installer for Ubuntu?
I only see x86 / x64

Can't tell you about Ubuntu... but

If you can get a version of Windows to run, you can test your LEAP motion device/LEAP Service with it … might need to bridge in a powerful usb 3 energy source...

but if LEAP device works, then you can write an executable app in Unity3D/Unreal with LEAP controllers that should work as well as the test apps provided by LEAP.
