Hello
the tracking software is marked "not compatible with MacOS Monterey".
And sadly it seems to be true.
Do you have an ETA for the Monterey support ? or a beta version of the software ?

I've installed the tracking software, I've tried to plug the LM Controller, and in the software, it doesnt appear to be connected. (the sameController works in a Windows computer of a friend).

Does anybody know a trick to make it work ?

regards,

Hi @labouc65, I have tested our legacy V2 SDK on macOS Monterey and unfortunately this does not work.

However, I am pleased to say that there will be a Mac version of Gemini V5! Mac support is in our roadmap!

With Gemini, we've completely rebuilt our tracking engine so that we will be able to support different platforms, cameras and third-party hardware in the future!

Keep an eye on our socials for updates next year.

Hello @dankirby, thank you for your answer.
Unfortunately, my student's project will be ended at the end of 2021 :pensive: .
I will try to find a Windows computer.
Best regards

It would be very nice if there was an upcoming support for raspberry pi 4 and future more powerful variants.

Regards,

Hello, @dankirby, or another Ultraleap team member, now that Gemini V5 is out, is there any update on the roadmap for MacOS Monterey support?

Hi @addbrick, there are no updates that I can share currently but Mac Support is still on our roadmap for later this year.

There is not much that I can share but we are looking at making our software available to lower power devices ARM platforms in the future

For now I would recommend investigating a small Intel NUC machine or a tiny x86 based computer which are RPI-like but not ARM which may work better for you.

Intel NUC mini-PCs are below the i3 spec but we've heard multiple reports that the hand tracking runs fine on them. However we are not sure what models people have used and it is worth noting that they have i5 processors that go as low as 1.3GHz up to 2.6GHz turbo dual core.

Hi labouc65.
I had a similar issue as yourself, using touchess_lm and the device not registering, so any third party apps (albeit the few that remain !) would be moot regardless.
out of a bit of messing about I figured that the device was still registering in some crude way but not interacting. so this is what I did, for osx Monterey build 12.2.1 (public not beta).

  1. load up your leap motion controller and the software
  2. in leap software, go settings : troubleshooting : recalibrate device
  3. keep that window open and restart your m1 Mac running Monterey
  4. when you restart it should pickup on the recalibrate window - but I could just close this window (not the leap program itself, and it worked.

so requires a restart for usage. Also the caveat I found is that with touches_lm it now wants to become the mouse, as opposed to a secondary pointer that was a green circle and gave me feedback, but this is just a minor thing for now as I'm messing around with it.

hope the new software comes out and maybe even some beta testers are needed.

hope this helps you out.

Hello CFord, thank you very much for your tutorial !
Unfortunately, my project has ended, I've used a Windows machine for that.
But I still own the Controller, and I will give it a try at the occasion.
Best regards.

CFord’s workaround is workin for me! Thanks heaps. Seems a little glitchy, but things like palm position are pretty reliable. Using with TouchDesigner

I was told that I was to wait for Gemini and it woul dbe Montorery compatible.

Spent 100 bucks on something I cant ever use...What a joy.

Thank you so much for this tutorial CFord, it also saved my life

I’m using leap motion with Isadora and it seems to be working.

I really hope there will be a normal functioning way between leap motion and Monterey soon.

Best wishes.

@dankirby I don't suppose there's any update on M1/Monterey support? The 2.3.1 SDK seems not very accurate, and I'd love to try a newer version to see if that fixes the problems I'm seeing.

Thanks @CFord for your solution. It seems to work. Still waiting for a native solution by leapmotion though.
Did anyone manage to run the Leap Motion App Home on M1 Monterey yet?

Hi @Snipeye and @philmeissner, currently there is no update about Gemini V5 for MacOS that we can share, this remains on our product roadmap, please keep an eye on our social news feeds and we will share more as soon as we can!

The Leap Motion Gallery was retired in 2017 and the majority of the apps that were here were migrated over to the Leap Motion Gallery54. Please see our FAQs here25 which covers a lot of questions about this.

Hi CFord, thanks for your advice. I wonder, where did you get touchless? I have been looking for it but it is no where. Would you mind emailing it to me?

oooh you got my interest here. I'm currently making a leap based synthesizer, and running it on an embedded ARM system would be great. Please share any update on that!

so you can trick and bypass the ARM and m1 chip by doing this process?

im trying to setup my leap motion controller just to help develop and really want to start up maybe a discord so we all can get together and troubleshoot and try to get this baby to work I think this is some awesome tech that needs to get over the old tech hump and working with new osx

so doing the aforementioned process you can trick the controller into connecting? do any of the demo games / programs work and can be downloaded and loaded and installed with a program you can click on and load like any other app or program installed on a Mac?

I would love to set this up lets start up a discord so we can all get together and talk maybe hold a Q and A for everyone maybe and maybe we can get the juices flowing and start to figure out ways to get into the m1 chip!!

ty all
