Is there a way to disable the IR LEDs?

Is there a way to disable the LEDs in software? I expect not, but if there is I'd really like to know.

And if there is not, could that be a feature in a future update?

No, there isn't. Why do you want to? To use the Leap as a wide-angle stereo IR camera?

Pretty much, I am using the Oculus Rift with the leap, but the leap must be on the desk.
So I am using the blinking IR LEDs on the Rift to calibrate the Leap Motion, calculate it's pose relative to the Rift, and the Leaps IR blast sometimes reflects off the Rifts plastic shell and ruins my blob detection.

It performs relatively well, but it would just be nice to have. If the Leap had the ability to disable the LEDs and a quarter inch camera mount, the Leap could be sold as a IR camera AND a Depth camera. Like what Intel is doing with their RealSense camera.

I also need to disable the LEDs and since there is no software way, I would like to know if there are any additional optical filters on the sensors besides the acrylic glass? If not, it would be possible to filter out the 850nm LEDs and use my own lighting with different wavelength.

There is no way to disable them. Maybe paint them black? There is also a IR filter underneath the lenses so they can only see 850nm light.

Is it now possible to disable them? Or could I remove the LEDs with a cutter knife?
Because we have to place the LEDs more distant (reflection of a IF permeable acryl glass).

For people also wanting to disable the leds, I have found a simple way. Unfortunately not through software.
Open the Leap Motion like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cjJ9sEWA2Ag
and put some aluminum foil in front of the leds (1 sheet thickness is enough). This will block the IR light.
