Is gesture recognition still possible?

I got a Leap Motion for my gesture recognition university project after discovering the Xbox Kinect does not recognise people if an object is obstructing them (specifically a desk in my case).

However, while trying to use the gestures in Python for the leap, I've just read in a forum somewhere that the inhousegesture recognition has actually been removed from the software.

Is this true? What can I do now? I'm two months into my university project with nothing to show for it at this point.

What kind of gestures are you attempting to recognize?

Any whatsoever, I need a small selection of unique gestures for my project. Do I need to goto an older SDK?

We deprecated a specific set of gestures – circle, swipe, and screentap – whereas building your own gestures has always been possible using the raw tracking data.

Can you recommend any guides for that? I've been having trouble finding the right resources. I seem to frequently come across documentation for the discontinued gestures.

There aren't really any full-fledged guides, just different solutions. There are hundreds of ways you might implement your own gestures. The biggest question is how you define your gestures and how your application might recognize a gesture from the hand tracking data provided.
