I'm also new to Leap Motion and have been playing around with it a couple of months.
The LMC is more geared towards developers. So it's hard to find non-developer forums.
That being said, downloading and installing the SDK can take a step further. Once you do, there are some community developed applications you can try. Touchfree is one such application which allows you to control windows using gestures. https://developer.leapmotion.com/touchfree/
Most applications now have moved towards Virtual Reality and you can probably find more "plug and play" applications in that field as well, but I haven't dabbled with it yet.
Trying some of these out is a great way to develop.applications for others, if you are into dev.
