Hand motion analysis Surgical Training

I am looking to use leap motion to analyse hand motion to assess training in clinical procedures. I would be very keen to see if anyone is doing this or whether anyone would be interested in this. This would be a very unique method of assessing newly learnt skilss.

Hi @benglover, I worked on a couple of surgical training tools that utilize the Leap Motion: one for pedicle screw insertion, and another for neuraxial anesthesia access. A big issue I ran into is the limited tool tracking support. Support seems to have depreciated in the most recent releases and even then, surgical stainless steel reflected IR light from the sensor in a way that caused a lot interference. In the end, we had to paint the tools with a matte finish.

I think there's a lot of potential for hand tracking in surgical training but just be aware of the potential pitfalls when working with tools.

I am looking at using this for cardiac catheters which involved very fine hand motion. I am interested in analysing very fine finger movements. There would be alot of electronic equipment in the room which could cause interference.
