Same problem for me on the Mac.
I tried using the supplied file on a windows machine but it gets stuck after the prompt saying "resourcehost running"

Does the controller show up in the device manager? What color is the LED on the side of the device?

The controller showed up as a camera in the device manager, while the LED was red (and then stayed off afterwards). I think I solved the problem in windows by reinstalling the driver manually (i.e. going to the driver folder and then double clicking on the driver file). Then the firmware reset somehow worked and I was able to update it.
