Died while calibrating - no green light on device since

i7 16 gigs ram
ASUS ROG motherboard

verified usb 3 ports worked with iphone, wifi dongle and bluetooth dongle

short version:
went to forums.
downloaded https://leapmotion.box.com/s/stflcgfa35tvi55x67ma1biho95jtcqc5
ran it and looked through information that was collected.
didn't see anything unusual or any leap device listed in any log.
can zip this folder and send it to you if you give me an email address to send it to.
looked at forums some more.
ran dpinst64.exe.
no green light.

there is no flickering of the light when plugging or unplugging the device.

long version:

leap software installed without problem
green light on side of leap device on
opened leap software and selected visualizer.
saw grid system and nothing else.
closed grid.
opened settings, trouble shooting, recalibrate device.
dot on screen, began painting screen.
in a few seconds got up to about %20.
dot stopped following motion of controller.
looked at device and green light was not on.
[from this point on green light never came on again during any of the following troubleshooting or at any other time]
exited calibration.
restarted calibration.
saw visual asking to plug in device.
unplugged device, waited 10 count, plugged back in.
visual asking to plug in device was unchanged.
green light did not come on.
looked in windows control panel and didn't see any leap device listed.
all other devices that should be there were there.
tried other cords that came with device.
calibration software indicated timeout of waiting for device to connect.
restarted calibration as needed.
quit calibration after each failed attempt, did not wait for timeout.
tried a couple more times with each cord.

rebooted computer.
tried again.
no green light at any time.

uninstalled software, unplugged device, rebooted computer.
reinstalled software, plugged in device.
no green light.

looked through forums some more.

decided to post.

everything in the previous message was within the first hour of out of the box.
my intention is to use it as desktop and if i find a VR set that doesn't make me sick i'll connect it to that.

tried the firmware reset tool.
it instructs me to select pause tracking, but the only option available is to resume tracking.

press enter and it requests that i plug in the leap controller.
but the controller is plugged in the whole time.
the green light has never been on through all of this[except as mentioned in the previous message].

Look for windows services, select leap motion, turn off and on again... Happened to me many times

this sounded like a very good idea, and i wish i had thought of it.
however it's still not giving a green light on the leap.

it gives me a few ideas on other things to try.

Sounds like something may have gone wrong with the firmware update. Could you try downloading and running the firmware reset tool from HERE and let me know if that worked for you?

i tried this with a freshly downloaded copy of the firmware reset tool from the location you linked to.

i started it and it comes to the point that it instructs me to select pause tracking, but the only option available is to resume tracking.
so i didn't select anything.

i pressed enter and it requests that i plug in the leap controller.
but the controller is plugged in the whole time.
so i unplugged it and plugged it back in and waited about a 20 count.
there was no indication on any activity anywhere.
i also tried do this with beginning with the controller unplugged till it asked me to plug it in.
any way i tried it i got the same result.

it said

^^^^^ the time in the prompt was the time i ran the program each time.

i let it run for about an hour while i went and did other things.

after about an hour each time it was still at the point of saying

[Info] ResourceHost running

with no additional anything printed to the screen.

nothing more i can think of.
it's not lighting the light since those first few moments that i had it, and none of these troubleshooting measures have made any difference.

as a side note and not tremendously important, the usb extension cord that came with the VR headset attachment doesn't work with anything.
i have verified each port on my machine using my iphone and headset and game controller, and all my usb 3 and usb 2 ports are working.
however anytime i try to use the extension cord nothing works.

is it possible that i just got one of the units, or two of the units in the reject pile accidentally sent to me?
maybe just a "monday morning" set of products?

i was hoping to build a virtual keyboard with this unit.
all keyboards and mice are too small for my "significantly larger than the statistical norm" hands.

i was hoping that even if i don't find a VR headset that i can use i could suspend this unit above the desk and have it look in the area where a keyboard would be sitting and have it watch my hands and respond to actions that would be performed on a virtual keyboard that would be comfortably sized.

this might also work for people with small hands that find all keyboards uncomfortably large.
and perhaps people with mobility problems with limited range of motion of extremities [due to arthritis or other reasons] like arms, hands and fingers.

i was going to make the virtual keyboard for myself first and then work on the variations mentioned.
i need a working device for this.

i forgot that i wrote this. i found the problem, and i am embarrassed to say it, but i will. the problem was that i was not pushing the USB cables together firmly enough. they looked like they were connected, but there was one last little bit that needed to be pushed in. i was not pushing hard enough because i was afraid of breaking it, but the structure of the plug and socket was more robust than i expected. after getting the plug and socket firmly mated together, things worked as expected. the problem was with me and not the equipment.
