One thing I've been wanting to do with the Leap Motion controller is create a 3d mouse. Its only need would be to provide a highly accurate, low latency, 3d coordinate. While my primary interest is use in 3d modeling software I could see there being many more uses. The tool tracking does a decent jobs but the system can still have issues like losing tracking and become unstable the further away it gets.
I came to the conclusion that a ping pong ball may be an ideal solution. I've posted before about this but wanted to expand on it with a dedicated post.
Reasons for ping pong ball tracking:
-cheap
-light weight
-highly visible
-no rotation needed
-predictable size and shape
-Easy to mount to a pen, pole, etc
I would like to see this implemented like tool tracking but I am curious what others think about the idea. Anyone else interested in this or have any other thoughts on this?
