Use Leap Motion with long (10 m) cable

Hi @jhung, thank you for your reply and suggestion!

I tried to uninstall and install the installer you linked to now, and I'm not quite if that was the real factor, but here's what happens now:

Had a bad connection, (the log told me something about USB bandwidth not being good enough).
Changed to another USB port
Really really perfect connection!!!!
After some time of usage (maybe around max. 20min), problems started showing up again

I'm really baffled about this. How can I get such a good connection at first, and then it degrades??
My deadline is sneaking in and I soon have to make a decision to replace everything with IR distance sensors... but it would be such a shame and a huuge hazzle..

Hi Søren,

Thanks for checking back in. I spoke to some of our engineering team and they let me know that the issues you're running into are most likely due to the extreme length of cable that you're using causing issues. Is it not possible to shorten the length of the cable for your setup?

Hi @jhung

I just don't find it very logical that it runs fine the first 10-20 minutes... It's not possible to shorten the cables no, unfortunately. The Leap is mounted inside a fixed instrument in a room, and cables go under the floor to a control room 9 meters away. Another solution might be to get hold of a strong enough mini PC, mount it inside the instrument or on the wall, and send the tracking over wifi or ethernet cable... It's just such a big hazzle, and time is running out on me I'm afraid.

Are you able to use the same hardware and setup but with a shorter cable to verify if it is the cable length that is causing the issue?

ext usb cables do not work with leap cable you should know that.....

USB extension cables do indeed work with the Leap Motion cable.

We found recently that the LEAP works fine over 10 metres as long as you go via a powered USB hub.
LEAP into hub, hub into extender, I think we had a 12 metre run.
