Object tracking using Leap

Hi,
We are working on object tracking using leap motion. In our project we are tracking three dowels as shown in the figure. It seems to provide correct values for the lengths on one side of the leap. But when we turn the dowels to the other side, the lengths given differ. We cannot understand why it is not consistent. Thank you for the help.

I guess you've tried recalibrating?

When you rotate the Leap 180 degrees (and hold the hand above it briefly to flip the detected orientation), does the problem persist?

Same behavior with 2.0.3 and 2.0.4? Features in 2.0.4 included reduced jitter of tools and allowing tools to initialize backwards. That shouldn't affect this case, but let's double-check that.

You can also use the "Report Software Issue" button to send us an image dump so our tool tracking engineers can look at this.

Thank you for your reply. We were using the version 1.22 but switched to 2.0.4 and found from the skeletal tracking visualizer that it is tracking the opposite positions as pointables when reversed. This makes sense but also complicates our position in finding the pointables. Is there a way to make leap find the same position as pointables for any orientation?

I'm not sure if you mean the orientation is flipped, or if the tools have different starting points from what you expect. For the tracking orientation, you can go to Settings -> Tracking -> uncheck Auto-orient Tracking, then rotate the Leap 180 degrees if you need.

If you mean the start and endpoints of each tool are swapped, programmatically you can get the endpoint with tool.tipPosition() - tool.length() * tool.direction()

Another quick recommendation to try: the leap will likely not see that shiny black box (Kinect?) very well. Hence, the dowels likely look like floating rods, and hence there will be no data to prefer one end over the other vis-a-vis picking the direction of the tools. Consider putting a thin strip of something visible (masking tape?) along the edge of the box which the tools are transverse to.
