Leap Motion SDK fails to install properly on Ubuntu 15.04

I have just downloaded and tried to install the latest version (2.2.6+29154). After the installation everything seems to work fine. However aptitude returns an error. As a matter of fact now any upgrade with aptitude shows this error:

Setting up leap (2.2.6+29154) ...
Leap Motion installed under /usr/bin and /usr/sbin
Failed to start leapd.service: Unit leapd.service failed to load: No such file or directory.
dpkg: error processing package leap (--configure):
 subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 6
Errors were encountered while processing:
 leap
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)

Any ideas, please?

No biggie, it's just that 15.04 switched from upstart to systemd and this .deb is still set up for upstart.

I do however have a problem with whoever packaged this deb (and all of the previous ones for that matter ...). If i ever meet you in person you can expect me to slap you with a flattened printed version of deb packaging manual. Why FFS are .so, .ini, .png and similar nonexecutable files (and dll's ... why do i need dlls?!?!?!) in /usr/bin ...

Hey quick question, did you manage to get Leap integrated with Unity on your linux box?

Putting this here for reference: the method in the first reply works, but it puts unmanaged files in your system directories. With a few commands, you can hack the .deb to install the systemd-related files in a way they'll be cleaned up if you uninstall or update the package. I did all this for Ubuntu 15.04 and version 2.3.1 of the Leap Motion software ... anything else and you're on your own.

1. Download the .tgz file from https://www.leapmotion.com/setup, extract, and download the patch file to /tmp/patch:
   tar xzf Leap_Motion_Setup_Linux_2.3.1.tgz
cd Leap_Motion_Installer_Packages_release_public_linux
wget -O /tmp/patch https://gist.githubusercontent.com/jmwilson/8e6c579eac5fa7fa9f0d/raw/0b597ceb1f8184952bf067267ac4171691949068/patch

2. Extract the .deb file into a new leap directory and enter it:
   dpkg-deb --raw-extract Leap-2.3.1+31549-x64.deb leap
cd leap

3. Patch the contents of the current directory:
   patch -p2 </tmp/patch

4. Go back to the parent directory and build a new .deb file:
   cd ..
fakeroot dpkg-deb --build leap (this can take a while...)

5. Install the patched .deb:
   sudo dpkg --install leap.deb

I'm using Debian/unstable, above patch also worked.

To reduce operation, I've just created Makefile to repack modified version of deb for Debian/unstable (systemd).

could this be related to my issue? I cannot install leap setup under debian:

Linux install hangs in /var/lib/dpkg/info/leap.postinst

Hi, just got a leap motion by a friend to try how it works for me. Unfortunately, I can't install the Setup. It hangs at /bin/bash -e /var/lib/dpkg/info/leap.postinst configure I'm using the latest setup files maybe someone can help?

Your instruction is for the driver .deb Leap_Motion_Setup_Linux_2.3.1.tgz but the OP is trying to install the SDK, which is a separate download Leap_Motion_SDK_Linux_2.3.1.tgz
